Pope Francis Announces Holy Year of St. Joseph
One hundred and fifty years ago, Blessed Pope Pius IX declared St. Joseph as “Patron of the Universal Church.” To mark the 150th anniversary of this occasion, Pope Francis has proclaimed a Holy Year of St. Joseph from Dec. 8, 2020, to Dec. 8, 2021.
In the Pope’s proclamation of the Year of St. Joseph, Patris corde (“With a father’s heart”), he drew connections between St. Joseph and the humble people working throughout the pandemic. “People who do not appear in newspaper and magazine headlines, or on the latest television show, yet in these very days are surely shaping the decisive events of our history.” The Holy Father notes, “how many fathers, mothers, grandparents and teachers are showing our children, in small everyday ways, how to accept and deal with a crisis by adjusting their routines, looking ahead and encouraging the practice of prayer. How many are praying, making sacrifices and interceding for the good of all.”
St. Joseph was a man of sacrifice and prayer for the good of the Holy Family. Even today, he continues to inspire others to reach out to those in need, especially during this difficult time.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17, 2021.

Stations of Cross 7:00PM Fridays of Lent

Reconciliation at 12:30PM on Saturdays in the church.
Lenten Regulations1. The days of Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on Good Friday continues until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence.
2. On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2) smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
3. On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
4. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obligation.
5. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance.
6. Time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, February 21st to The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 30th
*Canon 920, §1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year.

Saint Valentine - Feast Day February 14

Saint Valentine was a bishop and is thought to have been a physician.  He was arrested for giving aid to Christian prisoners awaiting martyrdom.  While imprisoned he converted the jailer by restoring sight to the jailer's daughter.  Saint Valentine refused to deny Christ before the Emperor Claudius in the year 280 and won the jeweled crown of martyrdom by his faithful witness.  The feast of Saint Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius I.

Prayer to Saint Valentine
O Saint Valentine, lover of Christ and of the Church, we ask your intercession that we may learn how to love God above all things, and to selflessly love one another.  O glorious Saint Valentine, pray for us, that we too may have the steadfast faith of the martyrs.

Statue of Saint Valentine is in the vestibule of our church.

Our Lady of Lourdes - The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when 14-year old Bernadette Soubirous told her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend.
Stained Glass window is from our Church.

A prayer by John Paul II to our Lady of Lourdes.

Hail Mary, poor and humble Woman, Blessed by the Most High! Virgin of hope, dawn of a new era, We join in your song of praise, to celebrate the Lord’s mercy, to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom and the full liberation of humanity.

Hail Mary, lowly handmaid of the Lord, Glorious Mother of Christ! Faithful Virgin, holy dwelling-place of the Word, Teach us to persevere in listening to the Word, and to be docile to the voice of the Spirit, attentive to his promptings in the depths of our conscience and to his manifestations in the events of history.

Hail Mary, Woman of sorrows, Mother of the living! Virgin spouse beneath the Cross, the new Eve, Be our guide along the paths of the world. Teach us to experience and to spread the love of Christ, to stand with you before the innumerable crosses on which your Son is still crucified.
Hail Mary, woman of faith, First of the disciples! Virgin Mother of the Church, help us always to account for the hope that is in us, with trust in human goodness and the Father’s love. Teach us to build up the world beginning from within: in the depths of silence and prayer, in the joy of fraternal love, in the unique fruitfulness of the Cross. Holy Mary, Mother of believers,
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Amen.
