The Pipe Organ at Saint Valentine
Among the most prized possessions of Saint Valentine Parish is its pipe organ, built by the Peragallo Organ Company of Paterson in 1976. The organ is comprised of 5 divisions, 4 located in the West Gallery and 1 located in the right transept, for a total of 38 ranks or sets of pipes. All divisions are playable from a detached console, located in the right transept.
Voiced in the classic French tradition, it features smooth principal tone, colorful flutes, and fiery reed stops. The ensemble is crowned by the Trompette en chamade, a set of horizontal pipes located in the Gallery, under the rose window.
The console contains 3 manuals or keyboards and a pedalboard. The disposition of the keyboards are I Grand Orgue, II Positif, III Rècit, Pédale organ. The sanctuary organ is available on the top and bottom keyboards and pedal. There are over 2,000 speaking pipes that range in size from 16’ to less than 1 inch.
In 2016, the switching system connecting the console to the pipe work was completely renewed with a solid state system, replacing an analog system that was beginning to fail due to its age. The new technology also allows for a better memory system, MIDI capability, and completely silent movement of stops in the console.
The tonal design of the instrument was created by Rev. Joseph Wozniak, in collaboration with the Peragallo firm. It remains one of the finest pipe organs in the archdiocese and among the favorite installations of the Peragallo firm.
