A parish council is defined as a consultive body in dioceses and parishes whose main purpose is to “investigate, reflect and reach conclusions about pastoral matters to recommend to the parish priest as appropriate.” Half of US dioceses and three-quarters of US parishes have councils. Parish councils arose after “Vatican II Decree on the Apostolate of Lay People” in 1965. This decree recommended the establishment of councils at all levels of the Catholic Church.
The Parish Council of St. Valentine is made up of a group of 10 parishioners that serves to advise Father Andrew regarding pastoral issues. The council’s purpose is offering advice on matters such as sacramental life/faith formation, social concerns, and parish activities. Our goal is to foster a welcoming environment for all parishioners. We hope to interact with, not just our parishioners, but also the local community. We encourage everyone to reach out with thoughts, suggestions and ideas so that St. Valentine may continue to grow and thrive in the future.
