The Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego in December 1531 asking for a church to built on the Hill of Tepeyac in Mexico. He was instructed to gather roses in his tilma, or cloak, and go to Archbishop Zumárraga. When he opened is tilma the flowers fell to the floor, revealing on the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The feast day for this event is December 12. An image of Our Lady back be found at the back of the church on the right hand side as you exit.
